4 Ways To Improve The Scent Of Your Bathroom

Is there a musky odor in your bathroom doesn’t seem to go away? Because of their high humidity, bathrooms are notorious for developing stagnant odors. Although this is more commonplace in older bathrooms, even newer ones may develop unpleasant odors. Spraying some air freshener may only offer a temporary fix for the problem. Thankfully, there are several different ways to create a more fragrant, aromatic atmosphere in the bathroom.

Before we start, it’s important for homeowners to keep their bathroom as dry as possible. Not only will this reduce unpleasant odors, but it will also reduce the chance of mildew and mold. Turning on the exhaust fan while you shower and letting it run for 20 minutes after your shower will have a significant impact on the amount of moisture in the air. Using a high-powered light fixture will also help to evaporate some of the excess moisture.

#1 – Scented Candles

One technique that’s sure to create a more aromatic bathroom is to use scented candles. Burning a few scented or beeswax candles while you enjoy a bath or shower will send pleasing aromas into the air. Best of all, there are dozens if not hundreds of different scents to choose from. You can choose a traditional scent like lavender, or you can go with something more unique, such as apple pie. Just remember to always blow your candles out before leaving the bathroom.

#2 – Oil Lamps

Another idea for improving the smell of your bathroom is to use an oil lamp. These work in a manner similar to a scented candle. A small flame burns the oil to release a particular fragrance into the atmosphere. The only real downside to oil lamps is that you need to have a supply on oil on hand. When you run out, you might have difficulty trying to locate additional oil.

#3 – Scented Diffusers

One of my personal favorite ways to improve the smell of a bathroom is with a scented diffusers. Since they don’t use a flame, scented diffusers are a safer alternative to oil lamps and scented candles. You place a handful of small sticks into a bottle filled with the scented oil of your preference. It will then release the fragrances into your bathroom. Not only is this a safe and effective way to create a better smelling bathroom, but scented diffusers are also attractive decorative pieces. You can place a scented diffuser bottle on an empty shelf for a stylish touch that’s sure to compliment the surrounding décor.

#4 – Baking Soda

If you can’t seem to remove the unpleasant odors in your bathroom, you should try using some good old fashioned baking soda. Fill up a sock with baking soda and place it on a shelf or the vanity. The baking soda will naturally absorb the particles causing the bad odor. After a day or so, empty the baking soda out and you should be left with a clean, fresh-smelling bathroom.
